A Note from

There is clearly an epidemic of major proportion plaguing our nation today. This has become obvious to me as I travel the country sharing my God Allows U-Turns testimony and outreach. Seldom does a week go by when I am not approached by someone in deep pain concerning their adult child. It’s not just audience members in conflict with this troubling issue, but fellow authors, speakers and entertainers, some quite well known, who are living in the throes of familial discord concerning out-of-control adult children. It’s happening all over the country to people from all walks of life.

During the years I spent as an enabling parent there were no support groups available for me as a parent in pain. Although it’s a tremendously successful program, AA wasn’t quite right for me, and I attended a few Alanon meetings, but the kind of empowering strength I needed for my situation wasn’t available. I needed to hear from others who had walked in my shoes—I needed to hear what they were doing that worked. I needed people around me who would lovingly hold me accountable to my own choices as I experienced the journey of parenting and enabling a dysfunctional adult child. I needed an action plan to help me make changes in my life.

I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt as I was writing Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Child that a vital part of the outreach would be the development of an international support group network based on the six SANITY steps I had developed.

Please click on the links below:

We need a resource that can help us to set appropriate boundaries and get some S.A.N.I.TY. in our households, as well as assuring us that we are walking in God’s will. Following the steps outlined in Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Child is a start in addressing this issue. Attending, and/or facilitating a SANITY Support Group in your community is the next vital step in gaining hope as you walk the often painful path to healing.

I encourage you to listen to your heart as you contemplate becoming involved in this growing outreach community. We need your help—parents and grandparents all over the country need your help. Please consider joining us today in a network designed to strengthen our community.

Getting Started

It’s easier than you think.

If you feel led to assemble a SANITY Support Group (SSG) in your community please know that we will do everything in our power to assist you. There will soon be a place on our web site specifically devoted to Group Facilitators. Be sure to sign up for our SSGN E-zine - CLICK HERE!

SANITY Support Groups Facilitators may be parents, grandparents, men, women, married, or single. They may be stay-at-home moms or licensed counselors or therapists. They may be pastors, business professionals, or blue collar workers. SANITY Support Group Facilitators are compassionate volunteers who feel in their heart and soul that this is something they have been called to do for this season—for such a time as this.

Your SSG can consist of two, twenty, or two-hundred people. There is no required minimum or maximum number of member participants. Your group can be held in your home, church, business, storefront, school, or local community center. You can have meetings during the day or in the evening. Your group can meet on weekdays or on the weekend. You may have an open meeting, allowing new members to join at the start of the 12-week session, or a closed meeting where your members are personally invited by you.

The only requirements are:

1. SSG Facilitators commit to facilitating 12-weekly sessions. Meetings are held for 90-minutes once a week for a 12-week period.

2. SSG Facilitators follow the SSG Guidelines (included in the Companion Study Guide) for conducting meetings.

3. Every member has their own copy of the book; Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Children.

4. Every member has their own copy of the Companion Study Guide.

5. Each SSG Facilitator must register their group with the SANITY Support Group Network's corporate office to become an officially sanctioned group. This will enable your group to be advertised on our web site, as well as to receive valuable special offers available only to sanctioned groups.(See Step 3.)

That’s it! That—and a willing heart to help fellow brothers and sisters on the journey to hope, healing and freedom.
